Well,
this is my last blog for College Writing 101. I would have thought I would be
Happy but in a way I feel relieved and yet I think I am going to miss this
class. I know it sounds corny, but I feel like I have developed some form of
connection to my peers. I looked forward to their feedback.
I
have learned a lot in this class and that people who view and read the same
material have very different opinions. I believe I have improved my writing
skills, but I still have more work to do. It was easier for me to blog and
write more as a conversation than it was to do essay writing. I am proud
of myself, I was very nervous taking this class and had the feeling I would not
measure up. I appreciate all the feedback I received from my professor,
peers, and Smart thinking tutoring website. Without them, I may have been
lost. I have learned to start to enjoy reading again; I just need to sit
and relax more and take the time to read. My daughter especially appreciates
the fact that I am taking the time to read again since she is a book worm. My
daughter said if you want to become better at writing you should read more
books. I believe her.

I
enjoyed reading the glass castle, and from reading my peers discussions I
looked at the book The Glass Castle differently and seen more love and
forgiveness in the book.I am more of an empathic type personality, and I think
that is why I enjoyed reading this. I know Jeanette’s parents had issues but
doesn’t every family? That’s how I looked at it, they loved their children and
kept them together as much as possible. Yes, they were selfish but aren’t we
all to some degree? I volunteer a lot for Girl Scouts and my community, for
young girls on helping them improve themselves and teaching life skills. I
shake my head sometimes on how children are ignored. I have always felt that if
you are key in your child's life then that child has a better chance at life.
It doesn’t matter what you make you have to be present. I guess I could relate
to Jeanette’s father somewhat in this book. The Love the Wells children had for
each other and how they had each other’s back made me think of my family. We
never had it all but together we had everything.

I would also suggest the Supreme Court Ruling Making Same-Sex
Marriage a Right Nationwide – Thoughts on both sides of the fence.

Huge Thank you, to my professor for your pushing all of us and striving to do
better.
Kelly,
ReplyDeleteI agree! I enjoy the camaraderie, but I personally think I would have benefitted more from a 'in-house class'. I, also, am a much better conversationalist than a writer- so although the thought of writing a blog TERRIFIED me, I found it much easier than the essays! Who would ever have though a blog would be the EASY part of my week!
The House I Live In resonated with me, as well. Although the minimum sentencing is what struck a cord with me. How could two people with such varied violations be sentenced similarly? This concept blew my mind, and I've been telling everyone!
I wish you success in your future endeavors, and maybe we will run across one another in another class. :)
Kelly,
ReplyDeleteI agree it was nice to see and learn from other people through writing feedback but also on their perspectives of the different topics we covered. I also enjoyed both the book and film we experienced. The learning about love and family in the “The Glass Castle” was awesome and a reminder to be grateful for our families. It was very difficult to take such a hard look at race issues when thinking about the film “The House I Live In”. However, it is good to be faced with challenging issues and topics that sometimes are avoided. I feel glad that I had the chance to experience the film and book with this class. You are a great role model for your daughter! Keep up the good work in school!
